Wondrasek Sisters | Will Rogers Park | Oklahoma City, OK Family Photographer | Michelle Valantine Photography

Often, our family pictures consist of posed photos from holidays and special occasions.   But as a lifestyle photographer, it is my desire to capture a visual documentation of  childhood in-the-making.  I never know what the results will be going into a session with children, as my process is kind of a wait-and-see-who-they-are-and-what-they-like-to-do kind of approach.  And as a result, I'm usually able to get a couple of nice shots with the children looking at the camera with authentic smiles.  But mostly what I capture is a whole bunch more showing their unique expressions and glimmers of who they are on the inside.
On this warm, spring day Kala brought her two delightful and energetic daughters, ages 5 and 3, to Will Rogers Park for a photo shoot.  As soon as they emerged from their vehicle in pretty summer dresses, I noticed how the girls had adorned themselves with plastic rings, bracelets and necklaces to make their outfits complete!  Kala also brought a change of clothes...each of their favorite dresses.  She said they would wear them every day if they could!  This would be the perfect outfit for capturing them at this age!   And made me laugh as I remembered my own favorite item of clothing at that age...my beloved Fonzie (from Happy Days) shirt with his two thumbs sticking up saying, "Ayyy!"
As we walked along the rambling paths through the park, the girls ahead of us scampering over rocks and bridges, Kala said both girls were like night-and-day.  One loves to have her picture taken, while the other is a complete tomboy.  Can you guess which is which?
"Sisters are for life.  She is the only person in the world who shares my memories of our childhood, our parents, our struggles, our sorrows, and yes, even our moments of happiness and triumph.  My sister is the one person who truly knows me, as I know her."   --Lisa See, Shanghai Girls

And made me laugh as I remembered my own favorite item of clothing at that age...my beloved Fonzie (from Happy Days) shirt with his two thumbs sticking up saying, "Ayyy!" As we walked along the rambling paths through the park, the girls ahead of us scampering over rocks and bridges, Kala said both girls were like night-and-day. One loves to have her picture taken, while the other is a complete tomboy. Can you guess which is which? "Sisters are for life. She is the only person in the world who shares my memories of our childhood, our parents, our struggles, our sorrows, and yes, even our moments of happiness and triumph. My sister is the one person who truly knows me, as I know her." --Lisa See, Shanghai Girls If you would like to capture some of these same "real life" moments in your family, please visit my Family page at MichelleValantinePhotography.com.

Thank you, Kala, for asking me to capture your girls, and also for jumping in the last pictures of the shoot!  I know that request took you by surprise, but time flies, and I wanted to capture a fleeting moment of you with your beautiful girls in their favorite dresses.
