Photographing Carolyn, who will soon be graduating high school and beginning her college career, was a meaningful session for me. I was hired to capture this young woman, who is in the midst of creating the dreams of her future. And as she told me of her recent high school activities and accomplishments, I realized just how wise, talented and articulate this woman standing before me was, who is in the midst of branching out and soaring into the world. For some, following the paths of others is a meaningful and rewarding experience. But for youth like Carolyn, the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson sum it up beautifully, "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail."
